Today was our final race from Navan for the old bird season. We had our usual excellent turnout of racers and trainers. Both transporters were nicely filled as Viv and I headed south. I went straight to Navan Race Course while Viv called at Castlebellingham to liberate some birds then continued on to Balbriggan to release the remainder of the birds.
The weather could not have been better, high broken cloud and good visibility, and the birds cleared the race points in seconds. No sign of Mr P. With the south west wind helping the birds they made good speed.
Top fancier Jim Braniff has had a good season racing with us and crowned it off with a super win, also taking 8th position for good measure.
Another man that has supported us really well, and having a good year, is Arty O'Hanlon. Arty timed a good bird to take 2nd place. Bob Taylor clocked his wee hen for 3rd spot. The McElhome loft is in top form taking 4th, 5th and 6th. The ever consistent Mark Foulis nipped in at 7th with Johnston Bros. 9th, and Fairly Bros. 10th. All top 10 positions received prizes.
Many thanks to Henry McLaughlin Corn Supplies who so generously helped with sponsorship. Harmony paid out £100 plus extra prizes.
Viv and I would like to thank the many fanciers who support our ventures as we seek to provide a training service and midweek race for all who want to compete.
Our training will continue as normal and we look forward to our young bird midweek races.
