MIDWEEK RESULT - 19/04/17 & 26/04/17

After last weeks cancellation we were able to have a very good race today. At Navan the sky was broken cloud with sunshine and the birds were gone in seconds. As we had promised we would carry last week's £100 prize money over to this week, and those who sent birds to last week's race would be entitled to race again this week for that prize money, so that meant we had two races in one.

The top partnership of M & T Griffiths had a great result in both races, winning week 1 race and also coming 3rd. In today's race they were just beaten back into 2nd spot, they collected a total of £100 prize money. Week 1 race's 2nd place was the Ardglass loft of Paddy Byrne & Son collecting £30.

This week's race was won by John Begley & Son, collecting £50, and third place goes to the ever consistent loft of Johnny Jackson, winning £20. As you can see from the velocities it was a nice steady race with most lofts registering 100% returns. Thank you to everyone who came along with racers and trainers, and for all your support! That's all for this week, remember if you're not in you can't win!

Midweek Result - 31-08-16

Our final midweek race for 2016 from NAVAN.

With decent weather and a good number of birds on board we were set for an excellent race. There was a stiff westerly wind and the birds made good time on their journey home.

The loft of McCormick & Muckle from Millisle took the top two positions - well done Rodney who collects a total of £80.

Jonny Porter of West Belfast timed two game wee birds for 3rd & 4th winning £20. Good birds in that west wind Jonny!

A loft that is having a good year is that of Jackson & English. Davy & Jim took 5th & 6th positions.  Again, well done boys.

A very big thank-you goes to our sponsor Frazer Animal Feeds - with their generosity we were able to have 10 prizes.

We ran a fun competition today to "guess the minute" for the winning bird. As we had two closest to the minute on either side, they will win a pair of Harmony young birds each for 2017.  The winners were Billy McCorry and McCormick & Muckle.

Many thanks for the fantastic support we have had for our Midweek Racing this year and we hope to see you all back again in 2017.

Midweek Result - 17/8/16.

After taking the decision to go for an early liberation it proved to be correct. I arrived in Navan in time to get a release at 9:45. The sky was overcast with dark clouds approaching but much brighter heading north. The wind was stiff N.E. and not what the birds like. You could say I was concerned when I heard there was no birds in Belfast after 90 minutes. I spoke to Jim Braniff and he said "Don't worry John, they will come!' and of course he was right.

It turned out to be a good steady race as you can see from the Vels. The top racing Loft of Jonny Porter & Son took the top two positions. Jonny clocked his Dk Ck Cock which is bred from stock birds he obtained from his good friend Gerry O'Mara from Dublin. With being 1st & 2nd he collects a total of £80.

A great supporter of our Midweek Race is Tommy Gilligan. Tommy takes 3rd place and wins £20.  Many thanks again for all your support racers & trainers.

Today turned out to be an excellent day for our race. The birds cleared the liberation point in seconds. With a light north west wind the birds made steady progress home.

The top racing loft of Paul and Kathleen McCarthy made it a clean sweep taking the first 3 positions to collect the £100 prize money. No doubt Kathleen, Paul will take you out for a slap up meal!

As usual Jim Braniff was not far away, being just pipped for third spot.

Navan - 20/07/16

After a very dull start to the day we made our way to Navan. With the weather improving on arrival at Navan conditions were perfect. The birds were liberated at 12:15 in a light west wind, they cleared in seconds and made good time.

Midweek Race Result 18/05/16

THE RIGHT DECISION.

With a fantastic turn out of racers and trainers, Viv and I set off for our first stop in Newry, then Castlebellingham, and on to Navan.  After a 15 minute rest the birds were liberated into a light NW wind, broken cloud and sunshine at 12.15.

Up they went and I expected them to clear as usual.  They split into 4 main batches of about 500 in each and they raced across the sky as if they were going and then coming back; this went on until 12.30 when they finally all disappeared.  I can only think there was B.O.P. up ahead.  Hopefully everybody got their birds home ok.

The race was won by McCormick & Muckle of Millisle.  Rodney clocked his very good hen to win the £50 first prize.  This hen was bred by the top partnership of Harper & Young Portavogie.

Another top racer Rob Hunter had a good race to take 2nd & 3rd prizes to lift a total of £50.  Many thanks to all the fanciers who train and race with Harmony Lofts.

With the weather so bad on Tuesday evening we wondered if anyone would turn up to send birds to our race, but sure enough they did. With the number of racers down we were still able to fill one of our transporters with trainers & racers. The weatherman got it right as he said it would clear up around 9am.

Castlebellingham birds were liberated at 11.30 and the Navan birds were off at 12.30. With good racing conditions the birds were gone in seconds and made fast vel. As usual Jim Braniff has his team in top racing form. Jim takes 1st & 3rd and collects £70.

Another HOT loft is that of McCormick & Muckle from Millisle. Rodney was just beaten into 2nd spot but still lifts £30. Both these lofts had a great race as you can see in the results.

Midweek Race Result 29/7/15 from Navan

On Tuesday evening we had an excellent turnout of fanciers wanting to participate in our Midweek Race. The birds were race marked & put on our transporter. The drinkers were filled & left on all night. It is amazing how much water they actually drink. We were looking forward to the race with the N.W.Wind. I knew it would be a steady race.

On our way down to Navan we stopped off at Castlebellingham for our first Liberation at 11.30. Travelling on to Navan we encountered some very heavy showers. At Navan we Liberated the racers & trainers at 12.30 in perfect conditions.  They were gone in seconds!

At the home end, the in-form loft of Alex Crawford had another good day after winning both clubs at the weekend, he took the first 3 in our Race as well, collecting a total £100. He was closely followed by Jonny Porter, Winky O'Boyle & Bob Taylor.

Hope you all had a good toss & come back and see us next week.

Midweek Race result 03/06/15

Today was our final race from Navan for the old bird season. We had our usual excellent turnout of racers and trainers. Both transporters were nicely filled as Viv and I headed south. I went straight to Navan Race Course while Viv called at Castlebellingham to liberate some birds then continued on to Balbriggan to release the remainder of the birds.

The weather could not have been better, high broken cloud and good visibility, and the birds cleared the race points in seconds. No sign of Mr P. With the south west wind helping the birds they made good speed.

Top fancier Jim Braniff has had a good season racing with us and crowned it off with a super win, also taking 8th position for good measure.

Another man that has supported us really well, and having a good year, is Arty O'Hanlon. Arty timed a good bird to take 2nd place. Bob Taylor clocked his wee hen for 3rd spot. Midweek Race Result 20/05/15

Another excellent turnout of racers and trainers. We liberated just under 3,000 birds at Navan racecourse, unfortunately Mr Peregrine was waiting. Viv and I stood and watched helplessly as it hunted the birds. With the birds sky high they stayed really close to Mr P. It dived in and out through them but we never saw it catch any. There were still about 1,000 birds circling at 12.50 which made for erratic clocking.

The early birds made steady flying and recorded a Vel in the high 1200s.The loft of McCormick & Muckle of Millisle took the honours, Vel 1299. Arty O'Hanlon on 1293 and Jim Braniff 1284.

Many Thanks to all for the great support.

Midweek Race Result 13/05/15

What a super day for a race! With both transporters filled to capacity with racers and trainers we set off to our first training stop in Castlebellingham.

We arrived at Navan at 12.15. The birds were liberated at 12.30 in beautiful sunshine, within seconds they were gone. The in-form loft of Tommy McKinistry, Scarva, clocked two good birds to win 1st and 2nd and collect £80.

Next place went to another in-form loft, that of Sid Grainger & Son from the Maze. Sid wins £20.

Many thanks to all who supported our race and the massive number of trainers.
